About The Mummy Cats:

From the humble depths of a dark and grimy basement in Nashville, TN, James Cox emerged with a host of song ideas in order to infiltrate a rock and roll industry that he holds so close to his heart. One day after clearing out a space to jam with some friends James came across a dead and mummified cat. What was first an ode to the tragic death of this feline “The Mummy Cat Lounge” became a place where friends and fans alike would rock away the night.

During his time in Nashville James not only honed his lifelong passion of guitar playing and songwriting into a true career, but he also had many unique experiences which crafted the plot for his life as a musician. None more important than the time he spent mentoring inmates on death row while simultaneously starting a charity and competing in Ironman Triathlons. James pulls from a range of eclectic experiences to connect all types of listeners to his music, but not without some critical help…

Enter: Morgan Liveoak. Birthed in the same hometown as James (Birmingham, AL), these two became instantly connected after Morgan was found jamming in boxers via a Craigslist post “looking for a band to jam with”. Morgan is one of those naturally gifted guitarists that just seems to “get it” and it shines through his effortless leads and dynamic riffs. Not short of material the two set off for open waters to find connections in Muscle Shoals, AL. They quickly put together an EP which has since gained the attention of not only their peers, but Birminghams top radio stations and promoters. The 5 song debut EP titled “From The Head” is a dynamic “tease in the capabilities and range of the band” says Liveoak. Their collection of singles that lead up to this release gave them quick entry into some of the top venues in the city in which they are known to bring sizable crowds of 100+ while also proving their stickiness by staying on multiple rotations for 4+ months. The band is primed and ready for live performances coming off a 2 month recording session in Muscle Shoals for the debut album coming this summer.

While recording in Muscle Shoals the rock-duo was welcomed with arms wide open by a host of amazing people on all sides of the music industry. From studios such as FAME and East Avalon Recorders, Producers by the likes of Craig Alvin (Casey Musgraves, Little Big Town), Dave Hillis (Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, James Blount), Charles Holloman (Hanson, Anthony Hamilton), and experienced musicians such as Jimbo Hart (Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit) and David Hood (One of the most accomplished session bass players alive) and countless other engineers who have worked alongside some of the worlds greatest acts, James and Morgan have been gifted a lifetime of knowledge… The Mummy Cats as they now call themselves have dipped into a very deep well of knowledge which has truly primed them for success for their upcoming album. Not to mention Jimbo himself felt compelled enough to play on many of the new tracks set to release this summer.

This is only the beginning for The Mummy Cats and with James’ unyielding drive to “use music as a medium to connect with people and invest in positive change” and Morgans relentless love for the music, Vegas would be bankrupt if the odds were ever set against them.
